The Rolling Art Project

The days of Coronavirus, when interaction is limited and oftentimes forbidden, have affected artists’ abilities to derive inspiration from the outside world. The Rollo project was created with the goal of sparking creativity, interaction, and creation in artists of all backgrounds, and provide them with a stage to showcase their work during these times of social distancing. The project is composed of art “chains”, each beginning with a word followed by 10 works from different creators. The title word is given to the first creator in the chain, who must then create an artwork responding to, or interacting with that word within 24 hours. Their creation is then passed on to the next creator. Artists are allowed to create through any medium they choose to. They do not know who their predecessor is, nor do they know the title word of their chain. They must only respond to the work they receive. In turn, the new artwork they create is rolled on, thus linking a chain of interacting works. The artists’ names are revealed only once the chains are published in full. And here they are before you. Click on any image and it will lead you to the chain.

This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.

I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and although it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge - even wisdom. Like art.

The group behind Rollo is - SICHIM

A group of culture enthusiats who got together to create new platforms for art, culture, recreation. Our goal was real connection. A platform for meeting young people and new ideas, different lifestyles and knowledge that can be exchanged with one another. Meetings that aren't necessarily waiting for you on the usual online platforms or local bar.

"Sichim" happens once a month (during Covid-free times) in the living room of a home, in small intimate gatherings, with creators, artists, researchers or interesting people from whom you can learn something. And there is also wine and food, and the opportunity to talk to one another, to ask questions, get to know people, mingle. Connect. Swap phone numbers. Offer yourself as lecturers next time, too.

"Sichim" is a community that begins with salons and will grow in the future to other places, online and in life itself, stay with us.

The group: Shira Steinitz, Oded Kishik, Uriah Meadan and Anna Burd
